Pro Wrestling Women - Roxy Powers

Remember WOW! Women of Wrestling (sometimes just simply called WOW!), the women's wrestling promotion created by David McLane after he created Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling?
Do you remember "The Total Athlete" Roxy Powers (Natalie T. Yeo)?
Pro Wrestling Women - Roxy Powers

If you do...do you wonder why she didn't go on to the WWE?
I mean seriously, she could have been an amazing Diva!

Pro Wrestling Women - Roxy Powers

Unfortunately after WOW, the only place I could find anything about her was playing one of Bonesaw's (Randy Savage) valet in Spider-Man back in 2002.

Rita Cortez - Classic Womens Wrestling

Classic female pro wrestler Yolanda Gutierrez, better known as Rita Cortez.
She was trained by the Fabulous Moolah, and in her book, "The Fabulous Moolah: First Goddess of the Squared Circle" she said, "Rita was a dark-skinned Mexican girl, and I just loved her to death".
But Rita went all "Single White Female" on Moolah and wound up stealing her husband Buddy Lee.
That ended the friendship.

Wendi Richter - Female Wrestling

So today let's go back to the 1980s and Wendi Richter.
For a while there Wendi was incredibly popular and pretty much everywhere.
This five foot eight, 140 pound beauty held the AWA Women's Championship, the NWA Women's World Tag Team Championship (with Joyce Grable), she was the NWF Women's Champion, she held the WWC Women's Championship twice and she held the WWF Women's Championship twice.

Maximum Pro Wrestling - Gold Rush 2014

You know I love Indy wrestling.
And I love almost all the wrestlers from Canada.
So here is the best of both worlds.

Maximum Pro Wrestling is having their Gold Rush 2014 on April 26th.
Here's a little bit about them from their website....
"MaxPro was formed in February 2010, as a result of a merger with Canada's two most prominent wrestling organizations. This makes MaxPro the largest and most professional, family-friendly, pro-wrestling product available in Canada. Their wrestling shows can be seen across Ontario, from Windsor to Toronto to Thunder Bay, and all points in between! MaxPro has also hosted yearly events in Iqualuit, Nunavut and worked events across Canada.
Today, Max Pro looks to highlight the rising stars of Ontario, all while promoting social campaigns, ranging from anti-bullying programs, healthy alternatives to social events, and integration into the educational environment."

Maximum Pro Wrestling - Gold Rush 2014

Sounds good right?
Well of course the focus of this site is the ladies, and the ladies there will be MMA Ring Girl Mary Pearl, She Nay Nay, April Hunter, So Cal Val and Sunny.
You know how I am about redheads.
April Hunter and So Cal Val at the same event?
Yes please.

You can find out more about all this at Max Pro's website here:

She Nay Nay Updates

She Nay Nay

Way back on March 3rd, 2008, I did a write up on female wrestler She Nay Nay (Athanasia Alexopoulos).
Now all these years later I run into She Nay Nay wrestling for SHIMMER?
Is this the same lady?
I guess it is.

It looks like She Nay Nay has been wrestling since 2004, starting out with Border City Wrestling.
She's worked for wrestling promotions like Pure Wrestling Association, Atlantic Grand Prix Wrestling, Universal Wrestling Alliance, Ohio Valley Wrestling, Derby Championship Wrestling, Hoosier Pro Wrestling and Irish Whip Wrestling.

She Nay Nay

She showed up in the United Kingdom as "Miss Anthea" and wrestled for All-Star British Wrestling and NCW Femmes Fatales.
She Nay Nay even made an appearance for the WWE, wrestling Beth Phoenix under the name "Jenny Brooks" in 2009 on SmackDown.
It's really kinda cool to do a profile on a wrestler like her, then see her work all over the US, Canada, Britain, Ireland and even tour South Korea.

You can see more pictures of She Nay Nay at Wrestling Wally's website here.

Jamilia Craft - Women of Wrestling

Yeah it looks like I might be doing one of my lucha libre blogs here, but I'm not.
Five foot four, 130 pound masked female wrestler Jamilia Craft (Jenny Rose) was born right here in the USA.
Actually not too far from me in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

She was trained by Daizee Haze and Delirious (at the SHIMMER Wrestling Academy) and made her pro wrestling debut on January 24, 2010 against SHIMMER Champion MsChif.
Besides SHIMMER she has worked for wrestling promotions like the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), DWF, WXW, UWC, Ring of Honor, Action Packed Wrestling, Women Superstars Uncensored and more.
She's also been in the ring with wrestlers like her teacher Daizee Haze, Mercedes Martinez, Malia Hosaka, Sumie Sakai, Sara Del Rey, Mia Yim and others.

PWI Female 50 - The Independents - 2010

Earlier this month, Pro Wrestling Illustrated (PWI) announced it's list of the top 50 female wrestlers.
Now of course a lot of people have problems with this list and I don't hold it as anywhere near "gospel".
But I though that like last year, I'd take out the ladies that work for the Indy wrestling promotions and see how they fared.
So here are the female wrestlers on the PWI Top 50 that work for the Indys and where they placed this year as opposed to last.

1. Mercedes Martinez
Last year, number 3.
2. Cheerleader Melissa
Last year, she was working for TNA, so I didnt consider her an Indy wrestler.
3. MsChif
Last year, number 1.
4. Sara Del Rey
Last year, number 2.
5. Awesome Kong
Like Cheerleader Melissa, I put her on the WWE/TNA list last year.
6. Madison Eagles
Last year, number 10.
7. Nikki Roxx
Another "on again-off again" TNA wrestler.
8. Portia Perez
Number 13 last year.
9. Rain
Number 6 last year.
10. Angel Orsini
Number 5 last year.
11. Serena Deeb
Last year, number 18.
12. Nicole Matthews
Number 17 last year.
13. Amber O’Neal
Last year, number 7.
14. LuFisto
Last year, number 9.
15. Daizee Haze
Last year, number 4.
16. Allison Danger
Not on the list last year.
17. Kellie Skater
Another new entry.
18. Jennifer Blake
Number 16 last year.
19. Jazz
Another new entry.
20. Melissa Coates
Not on the list last year.
21. Cat Power
Another new entry.
22. Cherry Bomb
She was number 26 last year.
23. April Hunter
Number 25 last year.
24. Jessicka Havok
Another new entry.
25. Brittany Force
New entry.
26. Cindy Rogers
New entry on the list.
27. Roxie Cotton
And another new entry.

Like last year, over half of the wrestlers are Indy.
The WWE has 24 women all total and TNA has 10 Knockouts on their rosters.

Mia Yim Updates

mia yim-female wrestling-women pro wrestling pictures

Things have been happening quite fast for the lovely Mia Yim since I did my last write up on her.

She took on former WWE diva Mickie James in a match at Maryland Championship Wrestling, and had a try-out match (with Taylor Wilde) for TNA wrestling.
Unfortunately Mia didn't get picked up by TNA.
Their loss.
I think Mia would have made a great addition to a struggling TNA roster.
You know, the only spark of life the Knockouts division had was when they started hiring Indy female wrestlers.

But don't fret for Mia.
She'll be staying plenty busy working for wrestling promotions like ROH (Ring of Honor), CZW (Combat Zone Wrestling) and more.

As I mentioned last time, you can keep up with Mia here...

Shimmer Women Athletes

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
The awesome Rain

I talk a lot about Shimmer here, but I have never really taken the time to highlight just what it is.
Shimmer is called Shimmer Women Athletes or SHIMMER Women Athletes or just plain SHIMMER.
It is a Chicago based female independent pro wrestling promotion created by Dave Prazak and run by him and Allison Danger.
Shimmer held it's first event on November 6, 2005.
SHIMMER is closely affiliated with ROH (Ring of Honor) and is the home of probably the best female wrestling you will see.

And the list of SHIMMER wrestlers from the past and present is long and stellar.
Just a few of the female wrestlers that have worked for the company are Rain, Ariel, Jetta, Cat Power, Nevaeh, Daffney, Lorelei Lee, Cheerleader Melissa and Jennifer Blake.

Of course many SHIMMER stars ( like Amazing Kong (Awesome Kong), Cheerleader Melissa (Raisha Saeed) , Daffney, Nikki Roxx (Roxxi) and for a short time, Rain, as Payton Banks ) have gone onto work for TNA.

And Beth Phoenix and Nattie Neidhart (Natalya) also worked for Shimmer at one time.
.
I really cant say enough about this organization, so the best thing to do is check out their website here:
http://www.visuex.com/shimmer/index.php

Or you can go to their MySpace page here:

Miss Elizabeth

Although not really a wrestler, Miss Elizabeth had a big impact on female wrestling.
Just check around with some of the female wrestlers of today, and you'll see that she was a role model for a lot of them.

Elizabeth Ann Hulette was born on November 19th, 1960 in Frankfort, Kentucky.
While she was working for International Championship Wrestling, an independent professional wrestling promotion based in Lexington, Kentucky, she met Randall Poffo, better known now as "Macho Man" Randy Savage.(ICW was run by the father of Macho Man, Angelo Poffo)
The two married on December 30, 1984, and Randy went to work for the WWF soon after.
On the August 24, 1985, edition of WWF Prime Time Wrestling, Miss Elizabeth officially debuted as the manager of the Macho Man.
She became integral to the story lines with Randy, but she always maintained a sense of style and class.
Even when she once ripped off her skirt to revel a red bikini bottom that distracted André the Giant and Ted DiBiase, allowing Hulk Hogan and the Macho Man to win a match at the very first SummerSlam.
Except for a few small catfights with the late Sherri Martel, Elizabeth didn't do much in the ring except advance the story lines in the WWF.

In the WCW however, Elizabeth wrestled in her first official match against Daffney on May 8, 2000.
After that, she competed in a few matches against Rhonda Singh and Madusa.

On August 17, 2000, WCW released Elizabeth from her contract.

Miss Elizabeth passed away on May 1, 2003.

Besides Randy Savage, she managed Hulk Hogan, Lex Luger, Sting, Dusty Rhodes, Ric Flair and Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake.

The WWE has a nice Alumni page about Elizabeth here:

Nicole Matthews - Women's Pro Wrestling

This beautiful young lady is Indy pro wrestler Nicole Matthews.
And yes, like Trish Stratus and Gail Kim and others to numerous to mention, she is yet another Canadian wrestling beauty.
Nicole was born on January 15, 1987 in Coquitlam, British Columbia.
She was trained by Gorgeous Michelle Starr, Scotty Mac, Vance Nevada, Aaron Idol and Artemis Spencer, and made her pro wrestling debut in February of 2006.
Nicole is one half of the Canadian Ninjas with Portia Perez.
And she's a "heel".
Don't you just love heels?
Nicole has held the ECCW SuperGirls Championship (twice) and wrestles for Shimmer and NWA: Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling.

Melanie was trained by Jimmy Blaze, Ruff Crossing and Scott Spade.

MsChif Updates

    http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/shimmerwrestling/

Another female wrestler I haven't updated in awhile....
MsChif.
I like MsChif, I always have and I always will.
"Your Soul's Tormentor" has wrestled for several promotions including the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA), Shimmer Women Athletes, Gateway Championship Wrestling (GCW), All Pro Wrestling (APW), Coastal Wrestling Alliance (CWA), Ring of Honor (ROH), IWA Mid South and even NWA: Total Nonstop Action (NWA:TNA).

As far as belts go, she has held the Coastal Wrestling Association Tag Team Championship with Cindy Rogers, the GCW Light Heavyweight Championship, the NWA World Women's Championship twice, the NWA Midwest Women's Championship twice, the NWA Midwest/IWA Mid-South Women's Championship, the Shimmer Championship and she was the winner of
ChickFight IV.

Now that Daffney is in TNA, nothing would make me happier than to see her drop the "Governor" gimmick, go back to crazy Daffney and bring MsChif in to be her partner.
TNA wouldnt know what hit them.

You can visit MsChif's website here:

And you can see more of her at Shimmer's website here:

Su Yung - Female Wrestling

Su Yung was born in Seattle, Washington.
But when the wrestling bug bit her, she moved to Memphis, Tennessee.
When she got there, she hooked up with Hub City Wrestling Training ran by Bill Dundee and Kevin White.
The rest may be history, because I see a lot of potential in this young lady.

UK Wrestler Lexx

At 5 feet tall you wouldn't think a wrestler could be very good would you?
Well you would be WRONG!
This is UK Independent female wrestler Lexx.
And Lexx is proof that good things do come in small packages.
Lexx will take on anyone, male or female, in the ring.
If you want to see more of Lexx, check out her Veoh channel

On a sad note, I can't find any current info on Lexx.
And her website seems to be gone.
I'm wondering if this lovely young lady has left wrestling.
Anyone have any more info?
