And here are some updates on the top five out of their top ten...

Cherry Bomb - pro wrestling news
It looks like the lovely Cherry Bomb has dropped the pink hair look.
Here is a video posted on YouTube by ontarioindy of a Leather Strap on a Pole match that took place on June 12th, 2009, between Cherry Bomb and Danyah.
The match was for the Stranglehold Wrestling wrestling promotion.

Jessie McKay - women of wrestlingThe sexy five foot ten inch Australian wrestler Jessie McKay came in at number two on the G.L.O.R.Y. list.
Here is a clip of a match between Jessie and the legendary Cheerleader Melissa posted by ton2x13 on You Tube

Jennifer Blake - wrestling news and rumorsThis picture was taken by another beautiful female wrestler...April Hunter!

"Girl Dynamite" Jennifer Blake is making quite a name for herself, and she came in at number three on their list
Here is another clip of Jennifer taking on the equally beautiful Lacey, posted by lexiefyfe1 (could that be THE Lexie Fyfe?) on YouTube
I can't embed it, but here is the link so you can watch it

April Hunter - female wrestling listNumber four is April Hunter.
I thought April retired from wrestling ?
I guess she is still doing some projects because here is a clip from a video posted by ONealAppealVideo on YouTube of April and Amber O'Neal engaged in several tests of strength.

Su Yung - wrestling matchesAnd rounding out the top five from the G.L.O.R.Y. wrestling's Hot 100 for December is Su Yung.

Wrestlicious - Wrestling News and Rumors

Wrestlicious - wrestling news and rumors

Here is the latest video for the upcoming Wrestlicious female wrestling show.

(By the way Wrestlicious people, many thanks for allowing embedding so that we can help spread the word.)

Even though they dont as of yet have a distributor, they have built up a presense on the web.

They have a MySpace page:
http://www.myspace.com/wrestliciousbaby
(I'm in their top forty friends! Go me!)

A Facebook page:
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Wrestlicious/144824402691

And a Twitter account:
http://twitter.com/Wrestlicious1

And of course their own YouTube channel:
http://www.youtube.com/user/WrestliciousBaby

(Yes JV Rich I am giving you all kinds of free PR here...LOL)

Without a network deal (Fox was mentioned in the beginning stages of the promotion, but it looks like that is gone now) it looks like Wrestlicious' best bet is syndication.
Why not?
That's what made GLOW a cult hit.
And you have to look at this as a reboot in a way.
I almost wish they could have gotten the rights to the original GLOW characters and actually made the show a reboot of GLOW.
But hey, you dont get famous by just reusing the other guys ideas do you?
(Okay...I know, don't tell the motion picture industry that)

The upside of Wrestlicious is that from what I have seen of their roster, most (if not all) of their wrestlers can really...ummm...wrestle.
(Side note here, could Wrestlicious please put out an actual roster list so I don't have to keep guessing?)
That puts them ahead of one of the "other" major wrestling promotions.
And it gives lots of Indy female wrestlers a chance to shine.
So I'll be watching the show when it comes out for that reason if nothing else.

Annie Social - Womens Pro Wrestling

annie social-women pro wrestling pictures-women wrestling

Can you believe its been almost three years since I did an entry on female wrestler Annie Social?
Yep, the first one was back on January 22nd, 2007.
My female wrestling list has grown quite a bit since then, but I still like Annie.
Annie was born Nancy Becker, on January 28, 1982 in Kensington (or Philadelphia), Pennsylvania.
She was trained by Trent Acid, Gary Wolf and Mike Kehenner, and she made her pro wrestling debut in 2003.
Annie has worked for wrestling promotions like The NWWL, Juggalo Championship Wrestling, Women Superstars Uncensored, IWA Mid-South, SHIMMER, Jersey All Pro Wrestling and Women's Extreme Wrestling.

You can check out her Model Mayhem page here:

Female Wrestling - Sara Jay

I don't know if Sara Jay took the snake to the ring ala Jake Roberts, or if this is just a promo for Snakepit Pro Wrestling...

We seem to have an influx of Australian female wrestlers on here, and here is another, Sara Jay.
This beautiful young lady was born on May 11th in Warwick, Australia.
She may only stand 5 feet tall and weigh in at 110 pounds, but this is a lot of fight in her, as she takes on both female and male wrestlers.

Sara has held the WCWA Junior Girls Championship, the MIW Womens belt, the NAW Womens Championship and the WWC Womens title.

She has worked for Riot City Wrestling, PWWA, Ultimate Wrestling Alliance, PWA QLD, Snakepit Pro Wrestling, PWA Elite, MIW, Nightmare Wrestling, IWA, PWA Underground and AAW in Australia and World Wrestling Council in Puerto Rico.

You can keep up with Sara at her MySpace page here:

MsChif - Womens Pro Wrestling

I've never made any secret of how awesome I think MsChif is.
She has that certain something that female wrestlers need to make it big.
I kinda wonder why she has never made the jump to WWE or TNA, but I am kinda glad she hasn't.

MsChif - Womens Pro Wrestling

I didn't see MsChif's name on the G.L.O.R.Y. Hot 100 which kinda dissapointed me (actually, I didn't see her on GLORY at all), but she did come in fourth on the PWI Female 50 for 2009, so that made me feel better.
Hey, MsChif started 2009 as the NWA World Women's champion, the SHIMMER champion, AND the NWA Midwest Women's champion... she deserves to be at LEAST fourth.

MsChif has her own website: http://www.mschif.net/ and her fan page at MySpace http://www.myspace.com/mschifonline where you can keep up with her appearances.

Of course my "dream team" is Daffney and MsChif.
Could you imgaine the two of them tag teaming in TNA to go after the TNA Knockouts title held by Sarita and Taylor Wilde?
And if you wanna make me really happy, how about Daffney, MsChif and a "psycho" Tara teaming up.
Kinda like an "Anti-Beautiful People".

Female Wrestling Films

Since I'm not bound to the WWE or TNA here, I thought I would do a little something different here and take a look at female wrestling movies.
Or at least movies that have female wrestling in them.

The first movie I found was the 1951 film Racket Girls (also called Blonde Pickup and Pin Down Girls)
Bad beyond belief (it had the "honor" of appearing on an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000), the film actually has a few notable appearances.
One is Timothy Farrell who appeared in Ed Wood's Jail Bait, The Violent Years, and Glen or Glenda.
And two is that female pro wrestlers Clara Mortensen and Rita Martínez are in it.
There are also two uncredited female wrestlers, The Leopard Lady and The Panther Woman.
I wonder if they were real also?

Of course Lucha Libre had a run of movies with female wrestlers in them like 1963's Las luchadoras contra el médico asesino (released in the US as Rock 'N Roll Wrestling Women vs. the Aztec Ape), Las luchadoras contra la momia (1964), released here as (Rock 'N Roll Wrestling Women vs. the Aztec Mummy) and 1969's Las luchadoras vs el robot asesino (Wrestling Women versus the Murderous Robot).
I did write ups on most of these on one of my Luchadora blogs.

And of course we have the classic (well classic to me at least, I saw it in the theatre when it came out) …All the Marbles (aka The California Dolls).
All The Marbles came out in 1981 and was directed by the legendary Robert Aldrich (What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, Hush… Hush, Sweet Charlotte and The Dirty Dozen).
It starred Peter Falk, Vicki Frederick, and Laurene Landon and legendary female wrestler Mildred Burke actually taught Vicki Frederick and Laurene Landon how to wrestle for their parts in the movie.
Although the movie didn't do too well in the US, it did great in Japan and overseas, and a sequal was actually planned, but the death of Robert Aldrich killed that.
I have to say one thing I never say regarding movies....
"Hey Hollywood, how about a remake?"

Then we have 1989's American Angels: Baptism of Blood.
This movie starred Jan MacKenzie, Mimi Lesseos (The Magnificent Mimi) and Tray Loren.
Plus it had a lot of female wrestlers from the women's wrestling promotion Powerful Women of Wrestling (another product of GLOW's David McLane).

womens wrestling movies, wrestle women, wrestling movie

I know Sue Sexton was in it, Jane Hamlin (California Doll in GLOW and Malibu in POWW) and Jan Flame ( I think she wrestled for POWW and a few independent producers, you'd know her if you saw her).

Just Another Romantic Wrestling Comedy (2006) wasn't really about female wrestling specifically, but it did have April Hunter and Chyna in it.
Man, think of the tag team THAT would have made!
WCW and WWF star Debra Marshall also made an appearance in the movie

PWI Female 50 - The Independents

Pro Wrestling Illustrated just released their 2009 "PWI Female 50" list.
The top female wrestler as everyone probably knows by now is Mickie James.
But what about the Independent wrestlers?

Well I looked at the list and cut the WWE Divas and TNA Knockouts out (though to be really fair, a lot of the TNA Knockouts still do Indy shows but for this I took them out).
So after removing those wrestlers, we are left with this....

MsChif - Womens Pro Wrestling

1. MsChif
2. Sara Del Rey
3. Mercedes Martinez
4. Daizee Haze
5. Angel Orsini
6. Rain
7. Amber O'Neal
8. Jetta
9. Lufisto
10. Madison Eagles
11. Nevaeh
12. Wesna Busic
13. Portia Perez
14. Danyah
15. Ariel
16. Jennifer Blake
17. Nichole Matthews
18. Serena Deeb
19. Allison Danger
20. Melia Hosaka
21. Lexie Fyfe
22. Jamie D
23. Amy Lee
24. Annie Social
25. April Hunter
26. Cherry Bomb
27. Jessie McKay

Now if they will just do a Luchadora and Joshi PWI Female 50, I'll be happy.

This beautiful young lady is Indy female wrestler, Claudia Del Solis.
Claudia is a Texas based wrestler that has worked for a ton on Indy wrestling promotions including, World of Wrestling, Old School Wrestling, Mid South Wrestling, Southern Championship Wrestling, Anarchy Championship Wrestling, Texas Wrestling Association and if I read her MySpace page right, Asistencia Asesoría y Administración in Mexico, among many others.

Female Wrestling-The G.L.O.R.Y. Hot 100

The WAMMA has their top female MMA fighter list, but the closest I can find to anything like that on the web (not counting PWI's annual list) for female wrestlers is the G.L.O.R.Y. Hot 100.

On their top 100 list for August 30, 2009, the top ten were....

1. Jennifer Blake
2. Kristin Flake
3. The Radiant Rain
4. Amber
5. Annie Social
6. April Hunter
7. Miss Rachel
8. Lorelei Lee
9. Christie Ricci
10. Sara Jay

You can see the whole list here:
http://www.glorywrestling.com/Hot100Chart.asp

G.L.O.R.Y. Wrestling has been around a long time and a lot of the ladies they profiled as Indy wrestlers have gone on to become stars in the WWE and TNA.
Women like Sojo Bolt, Traci Brooks, Cheerleader Melissa, Jessica Dalton (ODB), Felina (Gail Kim) and a whole lot more.
It's a really good site to look up your favorite Indy wrestlers, and to see where some of the popular female wrestlers of today came from.

Female Wrestlers Before They Were Stars, Part 4

Now for the last three female wrestlers from the TNA Knockout roster......

Taylor Wilde
Shantelle Malawski started wrestling in June 2003.
Before TNA, she was featured in the two-part wrestling documentary, Slam Bam, which aired on the Discovery Channel.
Taylor wrestled for New Vision Pro Wrestling, she did a a three-show tour of South Africa, she wrestled in Monterrey, Mexico, Shimmer Women Athletes, Ring Divas' Battle Angels, Twin Wrestling Entertainment, Blood Sweat and Ears, Deep South Wrestling, Women Superstars Uncensored and Pure Wrestling Association in Southern Ontario.

Traci Brooks
Tracy Brookshaw had a long career in wrestling before TNA.
She made her pro wrestling debut in January 2001 as "Tracy Brooks".
Traci has wrestled for Border City Wrestling, the Apocalypse Wrestling Federation (where she had a feud with Gail Kim who was then billed as La Felina), Blood Sweat and Ears, NWA Cyberspace, 3X Wrestling, All Star Championship Wrestling, Coastal Championship Wrestling, Downsouth Championship Wrestling, Great Lakes Championship Wrestling, New Ohio Championship Wrestling, Southern Championship Wrestling and World Xtreme Wrestling.

Velvet Sky
Jamie Szantyr has wrestled under the names Velvet Sky (for TNA), Talia Madison, Miss Talia, Talia Doll and Talia.
Even though this young lady might look like a model, she has wrestled for Defiant Pro Wrestling, Georgia Wrestling Alliance, TNT Pro Wrestling, Universal Wrestling Association, Women's Extreme Wrestling and World Xtreme Wrestling besides TNA.
Plus she has held five womens wrestling titles and one tag team title.

So why did I do this?
To show the lack of depth in the WWE Diva roster as opposed to the TNA Knockout roster?
Yeah, a little.
It annoys me that with so much talent out there, the biggest company in wrestling feels like it needs to pull in models and dancers to fill it's ranks.

But it's also to show you that when you go out to these indy wrestling promotions and watch these ladies performing, you may be seeing the female wrestling superstars of tomorrow.
I cannot stress enough how much these young ladies put on the line every week just to do what they love, and give the people a good show.
Their lineage goes back to Mildred Burke, June Byers and the other great pioneers of women's wrestling.

Female Wrestlers Before They Were Stars - Part 3

Rhaka Khan
Trenesha Biggers was into basketball and volleyball before wrestling.
Before TNA, she wrestled for Deep South Wrestling (DSW), Japan's Pro Wrestling ZERO1-MAX (as Panther Claw), Full Impact Pro, Women's Extreme Wrestling (as Black Barbie), Professional Girl Wrestling Association (as Naomi Banks) and NWA Great Championship Wrestling.
She also worked for non mainstream female wrestling companies like Slammin' Ladies, Lady Victoria and Sleeperkid's World.

Roxxi
Yes Nicole Raczynski is back in TNA.
But before she wrestled in TNA she was trained by the great Killer Kowalski and worked for wrestling promotions like Shimmer Women Athletes, Squared Circle Wrestling, Women's Extreme Wrestling (WEW), Professional Girl Wrestling Association, New England Championship Wrestling, Defiant Pro Wrestling, World Women's Wrestling, Chaotic Wrestling, Eastern Pro Wrestling, Ring of Honor (ROH) and Mexican promotions Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) and Lucha Libre Femenil.

Sarita
Before TNA, Sarah Stock wrestled for Top Rope Championship Wrestling, Can-Am Wrestling, Real Action Wrestling, Main Stream Wrestling, Afa Anoa'i's World Xtreme Wrestling (WXW), Hybrid Wrestling Coalition, Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling, Monster Pro Wrestling and Premier Championship Wrestling.
Normally thats enough right?
Not in Sarah's case.
She went to Mexico, donned a mask and became the very popular "Dark Angel".
While in Mexico she wrestled for Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA), Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), Federación Internacional de Lucha Libre and Lucha Libre Feminil.

Sojournor Bolt (Sojo Bolt)
Before TNA, Josette Bynum worked for Ohio Valley Wrestling, 3X Wrestling, Midwest Intensity Wrestling, NWA Midwest, World League Wrestling, Impact Zone Wrestling, Shimmer and Ring of Honor and I'm sure I missed a few.

Tara
I'm sure I dont have to tell you much about Lisa Marie Varon's background.
Of course she was Victoria in the WWE and started wrestling in June of 2000.
But before that she was a fitness and figure competitor, competeing in several major contests like the Debbie Kruck Fitness Classic, the ESPN2 Fitness America Series, the Lifequest Triple Crown, the National Physique Committee's Inland Empire and Team Universe competitions and the 1998 Ironwoman Tri-Fitness.
And NOW she wants to get into MMA.

To be continued.......

Female Wrestlers Before They Were Stars, Part 2

In the last entry I did the WWE Divas who scored a poor 7 out of 17 as far as wrestling background goes.
Expect the TNA Knockouts to do much better.

Raisha Saeed-Alissa Flash-Cheerleader Melissa
Please, do I even have to list her credits?
Pro wrestling debut in 1999.
Ultimate Pro Wrestling, All Pro Wrestling (APW Future Legend Champion twice), ChickFight (ChickFight Transatlantic Women's Champion), Pure Wrestling Association (PWA Elite Women's Champion), Pro Wrestling Zero1 (Queen's Cup 2007), Shimmer, Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling, Independent Wrestling Association Mid-South (IWA: Mid-South).
Not to mention the Cauliflower Alley Club's Future Legend Award in 2004.

Angelina Love
Lauren Williams debuted in August 2000 and has wrestled for Mexico's Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA), NWA: Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling, Full Throttle Wrestling, Impact Wrestling Federation, Old School Pro Wrestling, Cleveland All-Pro Wrestling, PGWA, WAW and IWA Mid South.

Awesome Kong
Kia Stevens made her pro wrestling debut in 2002 and has wrestled for AWA Superstars of Wrestling, All Japan Women's Pro-Wrestling, SHIMMER, NWA, ChickFight, GAEA Japan, HUSTLE, Ladies Legend Pro Wrestling, NEO Ladies Pro Wrestling, Pro Wrestling WORLD-1 and last year Kia was named number 1 in PWI's best 50 female singles wrestlers.

Christy Hemme
Okay, okay I know she started out as the winner of the 2004 Diva Search.
But before Christy hit the ring in TNA, she faced Trish Stratus, Victoria, Melina, Beth Phoenix and Shelly Martinez in the squared circle, and she has participated in the Queens of Chaos shows in France, Heavy on Wrestling and Women Superstars Uncensored.

Daffney
Shannon Spruill started out in 1999 in WCW.
She has also worked for Xtreme Pro Wrestling, Ring of Honor, Women's Extreme Wrestling, NWA Wrestle Birmingham and Shimmer Women Athletes.

Madison Rayne
Ashley Simmons or Ashley Lane or Lexi Lane debuted in 2005 and worked for Ohio Championship Wrestling (first ever OCW Women's Champion), SHIMMER Women Athletes, Ring of Honor before ever setting foot in a TNA ring.

ODB
Jessica Kresa debuted in 1998 and worked for Midwest Pro Wrestling, Ohio Valley Wrestling, Steel Domain Wrestling, Texas Wrestling Federation and United States Wrestling Organization before winding up in TNA.
Jessica also did some MMA fighting.

To be continued......

Female Wrestlers Before They Were Stars, Part 1

Many women from the Indy ranks have made it into the "bigtime", the WWE and TNA.
So lets look at some Divas and Knockouts that got to where they are today the hard way.....

First up, the Divas of WWE, Raw, Smackdown and ECW.
Out of about 17 female wrestlers, I only found 7 with real wrestling cred.

Beth Phoenix
Besides being a varsity wrestler in high school (Beth was the North-East Wrestling Women's Champion (72 kg weight class) and the New York State Fair Women's Champion (72 kg weight class) in 1999) , Beth worked for Far North Wrestling, GLORY Wrestling, Cleveland All-Pro Wrestling (C.A.P.W) and Shimmer Women Athletes.
I'm not counting Ohio Valley Wrestling here though maybe I should.

Gail Kim
Before the WWE, TNA and the WWE again, Gail worked for Apocalypse Wrestling Federation (she wrestled there masked as La Felina, Queen of the Cats and lost her mask to Traci Brooks)

Jillian Hall
Before the WWE, Jillian had a really good career in the Indys.
As Macaela Mercedes she wrestled for Blue Water Championship Wrestling, Canadian International Wrestling, GLORY Wrestling, Hoosier Pro Wrestling, Mid–States Championship Wrestling, Professional Girl Wrestling Association, Southern States Wrestling, Superstar Wrestling Federation and Women's Wrestling Alliance.
On theWWE she sings...badly.
Go figure.

Mickie James
As Alexis Laree she wrestled for CyberSpace Wrestling Federation, Delaware Championship Wrestling, Impact Championship Wrestling, Premier Wrestling Federation, Southern Championship Wrestling, Ultimate Championship Wrestling and Ultimate Wrestling Federation.

Melina
Melina Perez worked for Empire Wrestling Federation as "Kyra" (EWF officials said that she had the most natural ability of any woman who came through their school), Ultimate Pro Wrestling (UPW) and I really think she worked for more, but I cant find any proof of that right now.

Natalya
Natalie "Nattie" Katherine Neidhart, the first third-generation female wrestler in the world, wrestled for Stampede Wrestling, NWA: Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling, Prairie Wrestling Alliance, Great Canadian Wrestling, Universal Wrestling Federation (UWF), AAW Wrestling, Shimmer Women Athletes and she toured the UK and Japan.

Katie Lea Burchill
Katarina Waters had a really good career going in the UK, working for promotions like Trans-Atlantic Wrestling, Queens of Chaos, Frontier Wrestling Alliance (FWA), NAWA (in Germany), German Stampede Wrestling (GSW) and Shimmer Women Athletes.
Now she's pretty much just a valet.

We offer downloads, DVDs, custom matches, and many other things that just might surprise you. The thing you are sure to find is one of the most talented group of young ladies in wrestling. UK Female Wrestler - Faith Diva Lehaine

Moving on with my female wrestling list, we have a young lady that works in the UK, but was born in my home state.
Faith Diva Lehaine was born in Wilmington, North Carolina, but she has made her name in wrestling promotions in Great Britain.
Besides being a female wrestler, she is also a dancer, singer and actress.
Faith started out as a valet and manager, but she has gotten into the wrestling ring enough to win the UCW Women's Championship three times.

I usually post a couple of links where you can keep up with the female wrestlers I profile here, and Faith really seems to know how to keep in contact with her fans.

You can follow her on Twitter here:
http://twitter.com/FaithLehaine

And also keep up with her on Facebook here:

Hopefully one day we will see her in wrestling here in the US.

Female Wrestling: Tenille

Female Wrestling: Tenille

Melbourne, Australia native Tenille Dashwood is another Aussie poised to make a dent in the female wrestling scene.
She is known as Tenille Tayla in Australia and simply Tenille in North American promotions.
This young lady was bitten by the wrestling bug at the age of 10, and decided pro wrestling way the way she wanted to go.
After she graduated high school, she took some business management courses at a university, but wrestling was what was on her mind.

So she traveled to Calgary, Alberta, and attended Lance Storm's Wrestling Academy.
She trained there for three months before moving back to Australia and getting into the wrestling scene there.
After wrestling there for a bit, she and fellow Aussie Jessie McKay caught the atttention of SHIMMER promoter Dave Prazak (via Sara Del Rey who worked with Tenille in Australia) and she was soon in the US making her debut in SHIMMER.

Besides SHIMMER, Tenille has worked for PWA Queensland, PWA Australia, SWA Newcastle, Nightmare Wrestling, Pro Wrestling eKlipse and Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling (ECCW).
