WWE Legend Trish Stratus

Although she's been retired for quite a while, Patricia Anne "Trish" Stratigeas aka Trish Stratus, is still a fan favorite.
And yeah, I think one day she will be mentioned in the same sentence with wrestlers like Mildred Burke, June Byers and Moolah.
She started out as a fitness model but went on to be the one time WWE Hardcore Champion, three time "WWE Babe of the Year" and seven time WWE Women's Champion.
And this was during a time when she had opponents like Victoria, Molly Holly, Gail Kim and Lita.

Female Wrestling - The Octopus Hold

AJ Lee's "Black Widow" hold has been getting a lot of attention since she started using it.
It's kind of odd to see a female wrestler use a submission hold as a finisher.
At least in the WWE and TNA.
Of course in MMA, the Indies, Japan and Mexico not so much.
The Black Widow is pretty much a modified Octopus hold.

That hold was made popular in Japan by the legendary Antonio Inoki.
Over there it is called the manji-gatame (inverted swastika hold).

Wikipedia describes the hold like this:
"The wrestler stands behind the opponent and hooks a leg over the opponent's opposite leg. The wrestler then forces the opponent to one side, traps one of the opponent's arms with their own arm, and drapes their free leg over the neck of the opponent, forcing it downward. This elevates the wrestler and places all the weight of the wrestler on the opponent. The wrestler has one arm free, which can be used for balance."

Like I said, AJ is using it a lot.
But wait until the WWE Divas figure out that there is a roll over/leglock counter to the move.

I did a write up on Irish female pro wrestler Rebecca Knox (real name Rebecca Quin) way back in 2008.
And I was pretty bummed that her career seemed to over due to an injury.

I was pleasantly surprised when she showed back up in Shimmer Women Athletes as the manager of Saraya and Britani Knight back in 2011.
And I am even happier now that Rebecca has shown back up as Becky Lynch in NXT!
Yeah I know I usually do Indy wrestlers here, but "Becky" did start out in the Indies.

It just shows that you cannot keep a good woman down.

At the time, I thought she was one of the most physically fit female wrestlers I had ever seen...and it doesn’t look like she has lost a bit of that.
How good is she in the ring?
Well she began wrestling training when she was 15 and she's 26 now....
I'm really hoping for the best and that the WWE will actually let her wrestle.

Female Wrestling - Reggie Bennett Before Wrestling

One of the fan favorites here is female pro wrestler Reggie Bennett.
But you know before Reggie got into wrestling, she was into bodybuilding.

She bulked up quite a bit for her wrestling career as you need to.
You need some cushion taking those constant bumps.
Of course back then they actually wrestled.

But as you can see from these pictures, when Reggie wanted to, she could be VERY sleek and muscular.
Reggie was born in 1961 (five days before me actually), made her pro wrestling debut in 1986 and retired from active wrestling in 2001.
But when Reggie went out, she went out with a bang.
Her retirement match was against one of the greatest wrestlers (male or female) of all time, Manami Toyota.

When Reggie was wrestling she held the All Japan Women's Pro-Wrestling All Pacific Championship, the IWA World Women's Championship and the Independent Wrestling Federation (IWF) Women's Championship three times.

Shanna - Women's Pro Wrestling

This gorgeous young lady is Shanna, also known as "Portugal's Perfect Athlete".
She's not only a wrestler, but an actress, a model, and a dancer.
Shanna's real name is Alexandra Barrulas and she was born in Lisbon, Portugal.
She stands five foot five, weighs 119 pounds and made her pro wrestling debut in 2006.
Shanna was trained by Bruno Bammer and Florian Klonig.

The Military Press Slam in Female Wrestling

You know sometimes when you are beating up an opponent, you really feel the need to just lift them up and press them over your head.
I guess it's one of the ultimate shows of dominance.
But in female wrestling, this move is not seen a whole lot.
Except for a few women.
Even with the cooperation of your opponent, you have to have the upper body strength to pull this move off....and unfortunately a lot of the models turned wrestlers today do not have that.
But it's been done....

Here is the Bertha Faye aka Monster Ripper aka Rhonda Singh with (I believe) Sherri Martel over her head.
The sad thing about this picture is that neither of these ladies are still with us.

Another former WWE Superstar that used to regularly put her opponents up over her head is Beth Phoenix.
Beth not only did things like this, but I have seen her fireman carry two female wrestlers at once.
Actually I saw her do it with two male wrestlers....

And another former WWE Diva and former TNA Knockout Lisa Marie Varon used to press her opponents up over her head on a regular basis.

Marti Belle - Womens Pro Wrestling

I have always liked Marti Belle though I haven't done anything on her since she was one half of The Belle Saints with Tina San Antonio being the other half.
Marti started out as Tristan Spade’s manager/valet back in July of 2008.
Then she finally got into the ring and made her wrestling debut on November 7, 2009.
She has worked for Women Superstars Uncensored, National Wrestling Superstars, Cleveland All-Pro Wrestling, World of Unpredictable Wrestling, Dangerous Women of Wrestling and Shimmer Women Athletes and more.

Allysin Kay - Female Wrestling

Five foot ten, 150 pound female wrestler Allysin Kay was born on November 5th, 1987 in Detroit, Michigan.
Allysin was trained by Mathew Priest and Bill Martel and made her wrestling debut on December 28th, 2008 in a match against Shavonne Norrell.

She has worked for a ton of Indy wrestling promotions including Ring of Honor, Shine Wrestling, Women Superstars Uncensored, Beyond Wrestling and many more.
At Absolute Intense Wrestling she held the AIW Women's Championship and at Women Superstars Uncensored she held the WSU Tag Team Championship with Sassy Stephie.

Allysin Kay is one of the few women with the size and power to give Jessicka Havok a hard time.

Amber O'Neal - Women of Wrestling

The last entry I did Santana Garrett so I thought it would only be fair to do her tag-team partner Amber O'Neal this time.
I haven't done a write up on Amber since 2007, but she is still going strong if not stronger today, especially with the newly re-launched WOW! Women of Wrestling.

Like I mentioned last time, Amber is one half of the WOW Tag Team Champions, All American Girls, along with Santana.
Besides working with WOW, Amber is also the CEO and founder of CWF Mid-Atlantic ArenaChicks.

Santana Garrett - Female Wrestling

This is Indy wrestler Santana Garrett.
She was born on May 22nd, 1988 in Ocala, Florida and besides being gorgeous, she is the daughter of Keny Garrett, who is the owner and founder of High Voltage Wrestling company.

And she is also working for WOW wrestling.
Yes...that's the same WOW started by  David McLane, who previously founder the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling or GLOW.
Along with Amber O'Neal, she makes up the tag team, All American Girls who are the WOW Tag Team Champions.

I Still Miss Lita

After all this time I still miss Lita.
The music would hit and she'd go running out to the ring..red hair whipping around, tattoos, thong....
She was pretty much the closest thing the WWE had to an "Anti-Diva".

Lita was hot, unique and she could actually wrestle!
And she had no problem taking the big risks or the big bumps.
Heck, she even had WWE Hardcore matches to defend the WWF/WWE Women's Championship when she held it.
Now that's not to say that Lita couldn't go out and tear up a bikini shoot just like the other Divas...because she could. 

And I get to put Lita on this blog instead of my Wrestling Redux blog because she has been doing some work in the Indys, mainly with
United Wrestling Federation (UWF) and Family Wrestling Entertainment (FWE).
And of course she still shows up occasionally in the WWE.
