Susan Green - Vintage Womens Wrestling

One of the greatest female wrestlers to ever set foot in a ring is one that you rarely hear anything about today.
Susan Tex "Sue" Green was born on August 13, 1953 in Alice Texas.
She started wrestling at the age of 15 and was one of the many wrestlers trained by The Fabulous Moolah.
At six foot one, 154 pounds, Sue was a force to be reckoned with in any match.
In 1975, Sue defeated The Fabulous Moolah for the NWA World Women's Championship.
Yeah that was during that "unbroken streak" the WWE used to carry on about.
Also, in 1976 Sue had a shoot match with Moolah and put her in a submission hold forcing Moolah to submit for real.
However, Vince McMahon Sr. forced Sue to surrender the title back.
Today at the age of 64 she is still a trainer.

Sabrina - Wrestlings Wonder Woman

Female pro wrestler Sabrina (Doris Williams Whitlock) has been wrestling since the 1980s.
She was born on September 2, 1961 in Stockbridge, Georgia and was trained by Ken Timbs and the Fabulous Moolah.
Sabrina is five foot eight and weighs 128 pounds.
In the 1980s, she tag teamed with Princess Victoria (Vicki Otis) and also wrestled in singles competition in America, Japan and Canada.
She and Princess Victoria held the National Wrestling Alliance World Women's Tag Team Championship at one time.

Five foot three, 139 pound Marie Laverne was one of the most beautiful women wrestlers to ever set foot in a ring.

Barbara Nichols v Belle Starr - Vintage Women's Wrestling

I think that Barbara Nichols was actually a young Joyce Grable aka Joyce Fowler.
Belle Starr was Patricia A. Onaindia, who was married to Juan Onaindia aka El Gaucho and Masked Medic #2 among many other ring names.
I also think this was a match in South Carolina that Belle won.

Penny Banner vs Judy Grable - Vintage Female Wrestling

Here are some shots of two women's wrestling legends, Penny Banner and Judy Grable (in the spotted outfit).
Five foot eight, 135 pound Penny was born in St. Louis, Missouri on August 11th, 1934.
Judy Grable was born on August 21st, 1935 in Bremerton, Washington and was five foot six, 137 pounds.
So it was a pretty even match up.

Interestingly, the most popular woman wrestler of all time on this blog isn't a WWE Diva, a TNA Knockout or even an Indy wrestler.
It's legendary UK female grappler Miss Mitzi Mueller.
Or Miss Mitzi Muller...or Miss Mitzie Muller...I see it spelled a lot of different ways.
She's so popular I even wrote up a Hub about her.

Rebecca Knox Returns!

Rebecca Knox was my 300th post way back in February of 2008.
I said back then that she had suffered a potentially career threatening head injury during a match in Germany that took place on September 26th, 2006 and that no one had heard anything about her as of January 2008.
Well the Irish former pro wrestler has shown back up in the Shimmer Women Athletes wrestling promotion as the manager of Saraya and Britani Knight, who were the subjects of two of my most recent entries.
In an article in March of this year, the Chicago Sun-Times reported that Rebecca is taking acting lessons at Columbia College Chicago.
